I want to have shared experiences with current friends; to meet old friends to re-connect up with; to make new friends with similar interests.I want to meet people I can learn from; play games with; enjoy a coffee and snacks and good talks with.
Question of the Week – December 20
Who do you hope to meet or interact with at the UACC?
Co-CREATE IDEAS
Friends, neighbors, non-profit committees, other meeting attendees
I’m looking forward to meeting old friends and making new friends at the community center!
My exercise friends and meeting new friends through various UACC offerings
I hope to meet other residents of UA and make new friends
Interesting individuals and a friendly professional staff
Everyone!
I enjoy being around people while exercising. It is a great way to meet people
Provide shaded seating areas on the rooftop
Have seating areas where people can relax and enjoy the views
I like the idea of having a place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with friends
There should be a lot of seating and large windows to take advantage of the views
I like the cozy caffe Idea, maybe with an outdoor area for coffee al fresco in mild weather
How about a cozy coffee cafe area that looks out over the City?
We can best take advantage of the views by creating an eating or common space where we can relax, grab a bite or coffee and enjoy the view!
Great place for a wedding reception opportunities to dine al fresca
There should be enough seating near windows so that people can take advantage of the views
Have it overlook beautiful green space. I would like to look over an expanse of green space every when I walk or run around the track.
It will be THE place to go for fun and well being
It will offer a wide array of programming and services for all members of the community
Well managed and maintained building, no barriers to memberships (scholarships available), community focused programs
State of the art facility that will service all age groups
Welcoming to All
By being a place that welcomes diversity to our community
Through talented Programming that brings about its full use.
I look forward to using the new Senior Center
Exercising in a fully equipped modern gym!
Playing bridge
Swimming with my son or to play some hoops
Workout equipment, pool
Exercise room
Swimming during the winter months with my kiddos!
Using the new fitness center
Take advantage of exercise classes and swimming at the community center.
We would use the swimming pool and sign up for a 5 and under activity class.
Swimming laps in the pool
Walking in and going straight to an open elliptical machine
Check out the lounge area—I suspect a good many of us just would like to hang out and visit with others of like disposition
Working out
Attending an exercise class there is room to spread out
I’m most looking forward to fully taking advantage of everything the UACC will offer!
I would like to exercise in the pool
Swimming – adult laps and kid time
Water aerobics
Take the whole family on a tour. My son (10) is convinced that older residents of Upper Arlington will live in the Community Center and he wants to hang out with some of them!
I am looking forward to playing Pickleball indoors. Then I’d love to swim and to play euchre with my senior buddies. Oops, that’s more than one thing.
I will be most interested in getting a feeling of community in the lobby as a place welcome to all.
Swim in the indoor pool!
Lap swimming
Visiting the exercise and Senior center areas
PIckleball
Swim
The old Lazarus blue-bricked building was an iconic landmark in Upper Arlington for years. I would suggest incorporating the blue bricks in the new structure with a subtle trim or perhaps a fountain. It would be a nice tribute to Upper Arlington’s history and the enjoyment it brought to our community.
Use the blue bricks from the former Macy’s/ Lazarus to create a mosaic in front of the new UA community center. Provide an opportunity for people to inscribe names on the bricks (for a fee) as a fundraiser for the center.
It would be lovely to have a frieze/ mural incorporated on the lobby wall. Perhaps the “sky” on a UA cityscape?
Make a beautiful fountain!
This beautiful tile would be perfect as accents near or around our new pool! Or there could be an accent wall somewhere near reception where the blue tile could be used to remind us of the continuity of Upper Arlington history. This could a creative mosaic art wall! Perhaps high school students could design it and elementary and middle school kids could help in it’s creation!
Use the bricks to make a blue walkway somewhere on the grounds of the new community center. Name it something like memory lane, reminding us of the Kingsdale of the past.
Blue bricks belong in the lobby behind the front desk as a memorial to the 50 years that they stood as a landmark on the site.
I think they would make a great accent on a great wall, entrance boundary/fence, etc. They should remain visible.
Community Center: Main entrance to aquatic areas – Pool deck or other feature trim – Therapy pool accent wall or trim feature, Many seniors remember shopping as children at the then Lazarus store.
There should be places to meet with food and drink that are informal gathering spaces, maybe at a more intimate scale.
Please make sure the pools accommodate senior water aerobics and swimming.
Perhaps card game nights that span various ages randomly paired together
Information desk at forefront when walking in to greet and help with resources. Cross train lots of staff to be a ‘host’. Include intergenerational opportunities. Pictures (action shots) of variety of community residents that change monthly or seasonally.
Have a public area in the entry area with maybe 10 seats, where a prominent sign is displayed that says, “Please introduce yourself to all people in this area. Conversation encouraged.”
If people feel too busy or not in the mood for social interaction, they won’t sit in this area. People wanting to meet new people will sit here.
Have a shuffle board court we have 14 shufflers playing every Monday and Wednesday
Let’s create something to pair UA residents with other residents who are different
I think a friendly staff is of extreme importance. The staff should be welcoming and attentive when members enter the center.
I’d like us to make all aspects of the building process, building itself and associated facility as green as possible.
The blue brick would seem to make a beautiful statement wall somewhere in the aquatics area.
Could you somehow incorporate it in a small portion of the first floor front desk with epoxy on top (to make it smooth)? Still a piece of art, but also functional.
I would like to have a walking track with a view of the outdoors and plenty of natural light.
